How to Use This Practice
Set a timer for 35 minutes. Answer all 19 questions without a dictionary. Read the answer key only after you finish, then review the Dutch evidence for every mistake.
- Aim for 14/19 correct.
- If you score 13/19, review mistakes and practise again.
- For technical reading, compare every letter before you choose.
Before you start
A1 Reading Strategies
Compare every letter
In technical reading, the wrong option often looks almost the same as the right word.
- Read the first letter, middle sound, and last letter.
- Say the word softly in your head if that helps.
- Check again before you click.
Read the question first
A1 texts are short, but you still need a job before you read.
- Ask: do I need a time, day, place, person, object, or action?
- Scan for the useful word in the text.
- Ignore information that answers a different question.
Use signal words
Small words often decide the answer in A1 reading.
- For time, look for om, van, tot, vandaag, morgen, and weekdays.
- For order, look for eerst and daarna.
- For rules, look for moet, mag, niet, open, and gesloten.
Find evidence before checking
The answer key is useful only when you connect it to the Dutch text.
- After each answer, point to the word or sentence that proves it.
- If you cannot find evidence, mark the question for review.
- Count lucky guesses as review questions.

OV-pas kwijt? Ga eerst naar www.ovbalie.nl. Blokkeer daar uw oude pas.
Vraag daarna een nieuwe pas aan. Een nieuwe pas kost 12 euro.
Vindt u uw oude pas terug? Gebruik die niet meer. De nieuwe pas komt binnen 4 werkdagen met de post.

Dan komt zijn buurvrouw Fatima op de fiets. Zij geeft Ravi zijn telefoon. De vrouw van Ravi heeft Fatima gebeld. Ravi lacht en neemt de bus naar zijn werk.
