MAP & ONA Explained: Your Guide to the Work & Participation Modules
A clear guide to the Dutch labour market modules. Learn the difference between ONA (for the 2013 Act) and MAP (for the 2021 Act) and find out which one you need to do.
A key part of your integration is demonstrating that you understand the Dutch labour market. Depending on which integration law applies to you, you will need to complete either the ONA or MAP module. This guide explains both.
ONA (Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt)
Who is it for? Anyone who started their integration duty under the Wet inburgering 2013. It is also an option for voluntary integrators seeking citizenship.
ONA is a portfolio-based exam where you must prove you have researched your career options in the Netherlands. It has two parts:
- The Portfolio: You must complete 8 'resultaatkaarten' (result cards) detailing your job search activities. This includes finding suitable professions, analyzing job vacancies, listing your skills, and creating a CV.
 - The Final Step: After your portfolio is approved (€40 fee), you must either complete a 64-hour ONA course at a certified school OR have a final 30-minute interview with DUO to discuss your portfolio.

MAP (Module Arbeidsmarkt en Participatie)
Who is it for? Everyone who falls under the Wet inburgering 2021.
MAP is a more practical and integrated module managed by your municipality. It is not a DUO exam. Instead, it's a hands-on process that is part of your Personal Integration Plan (PIP).
- Practical Experience: MAP focuses on gaining real-world experience. This can include volunteer work, a short internship, or workshops on Dutch work culture and how to apply for jobs.
 - Guidance from the Municipality: Your contact person at the 'gemeente' will guide you through the MAP requirements, which are tailored to your skills and the local job market.
 - No Separate Exam: You 'complete' MAP by fulfilling the requirements set out in your PIP. There is no final exam or interview with DUO.
