Exam Information & Guides

Comprehensive guides and information about Dutch integration exams, NT2 certification, and everything you need to know to succeed.

What Is the Inburgeringsexamen?

The inburgeringsexamen (Dutch civic integration exam) is required for most non-EU immigrants settling in the Netherlands. It tests your Dutch language skills and knowledge of Dutch society, ensuring you can participate in everyday life.

Exam Components

Reading (Lezen)

Understand Dutch texts such as advertisements, letters, and news articles at A2 or B1 level.

Writing (Schrijven)

Write emails, fill in forms, and compose short texts in Dutch for everyday situations.

Speaking (Spreken)

Respond to visual prompts and demonstrate conversational Dutch in recorded speaking tasks.

Listening (Luisteren)

Comprehend spoken Dutch from dialogues, announcements, and conversations.

KNM (Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij)

Answer questions about Dutch society — government, healthcare, education, housing, and cultural norms.

NT2 Staatsexamen

If you follow the B1 or B2 route, you take the NT2 staatsexamen instead. NT2-I corresponds to B1 level and NT2-II to B2 level, covering reading, writing, speaking, and listening at a higher standard.
