A1 abroad; A2, B1 and B2 in six Dutch cities
Take the A1 exam abroad at a Dutch embassy, consulate or approved provider. For A2, B1 and B2, choose Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rijswijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht or Zwolle. Your exam letter gives the exact address and time. In Zwolle, the address changed on 1 October 2026.
Booking routes for each exam

ONA has two parts. Submit 8 resultaatkaarten (result cards) and the required bewijzen (evidence) in Mijn Inburgering. Together, these form your portfolio. DUO must approve it. You must also complete a 64-hour ONA course at a school on DUO's list or pass the eindgesprek (final interview) with 2 DUO staff.
If you choose the interview route, register after DUO approves your portfolio. If you submit the portfolio by post instead, only the interview route is available. The ONA guide explains both routes.
A2 and knowledge-exam addresses
DUO lists six locations for A2 language exams and knowledge exams. They open Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 16:30. Check available dates and places in Mijn Inburgering. The A2 exam registration guide explains how to book.

The dated NT2 move notice (External site, opens in a new tab) confirms that Zwolle state exams also moved on 1 October 2026. Some official location pages still list Hanzelaan for NT2. Use the new address and check your exam letter before travelling.
Wheelchair access and adapted exams
All listed DUO exam locations are wheelchair-accessible.
If illness or disability affects how you take an A2 or knowledge exam, follow these steps to request an adapted exam:
- Apply for an adapted exam (External site, opens in a new tab) in Mijn Inburgering before booking.
- Wait for DUO's decision and instructions by letter.
- After approval, book with the registration form rather than Mijn Inburgering.

For a B1 or B2 state exam, request adaptations during registration (External site, opens in a new tab). DUO can take account of a disability or other personal circumstances. It sends a letter explaining what to do. Adapted NT2 exams (External site, opens in a new tab) are available at some locations, so you may need a different city or date.
A1 exam locations abroad
You take the A1 basisexamen inburgering in het buitenland abroad. You may need it before applying for a machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf (MVV, provisional residence permit). Arrange your A1 appointment in this order:
- Check your country's exam location and appointment instructions on NederlandWereldwijd (External site, opens in a new tab) (Netherlands Worldwide, the Dutch government's service for people abroad).
- Register digitally through DUO's A1 registration page (External site, opens in a new tab).
- Pay for the exam.
- Wait for confirmation. After payment, it comes by email within 5 working days or later by post.
- Arrange the appointment with the embassy, consulate or provider named in your confirmation.
Bring the documents required by your appointment confirmation and country instructions, including a valid passport and any required passport photo.
If your country has no Dutch embassy or consulate, check the nearest exam location abroad before planning travel. You may need a visa for that country. Ask that country's embassy about the visa. Dutch A2 and KNM locations are for exams in the Netherlands; book the A1 exam through your country's instructions.
B1 and B2 state-exam locations
B1 and B2 state exams use Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rijswijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Zwolle. Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I (programme I) is B1. Programma II (programme II) is B2. During NT2 registration with DUO (External site, opens in a new tab), choose a place and date, then check the available times. If your preferred day or time is full, try another city or date. The official exam schedule (External site, opens in a new tab) lists dates for each programme.
DUO sends the NT2 oproepbrief (call letter) by email and post. It gives your exam address and time. The NT2 exam-day page (External site, opens in a new tab) says you receive the call letter about 12 days before the exam. DUO's booking page (External site, opens in a new tab) gives 10 days, once DUO has received your payment. If your letter is missing 10 days before the exam, contact DUO.
For NT2, arrive 30 minutes before the exam starts. If you arrive late, you cannot enter the exam room or take the exam.
Travel and entry checks
For A2, KNM and an ONA final interview, arrive 30 minutes before the exam starts. Article 9.8 of DUO's exam regulations (External site, opens in a new tab) gives this rule.
Check all three points before you choose an exam city:
- Compare the full journey time. A direct train can be quicker than transfers to a closer city. DUO has no parking spaces of its own at the exam locations, so check public transport and parking before exam day.
- Allow time for delays and missed connections. Late arrival can mean you are not admitted under DUO's exam rules (External site, opens in a new tab). For NT2, you need to arrive 30 minutes before the exam starts.
- Arrange childcare and a meeting point outside for anyone travelling with you. At NT2 locations, only exam candidates may enter.

Your booking and travel plan
If you still need to book, use the route for your exam in the first table. If you already have an appointment, plan your journey to the address in your exam letter. For Zwolle, check that the letter shows Van Wevelinkhovenstraat 1. For A2, KNM, an ONA final interview or NT2, include the required 30 minutes for arrival and check-in.
