A2 exam: aanmelden (register), Mijn Inburgering (portal)

If you need an A2 exam, check your required level before booking with DUO.

DUO says the wait for an exam can exceed 6 weeks. Check available dates and register early, especially if your integration deadline is close. See DUO’s exam registration page (External site, opens in a new tab) for booking instructions.

Mijn Inburgering shows which exams you must take and at what language level. Check the exam names and required level in your personal exam overview before paying.

If you have a Persoonlijk Plan Inburgering en Participatie (PIP, personal integration and participation plan), check the agreed level and any other notes in your plan. Check any notes from your gemeente (municipality) too. If your PIP says B1, ask your gemeente or DUO whether A2 meets your requirements before paying. Check this especially if you want to use free attempts or a loan. Free attempts exclude exams below your PIP level.

For A2 language exams and KNM, you choose the date and place in Mijn Inburgering. Login needs the DigiD app or SMS (text message) verification, according to DUO’s login instructions (External site, opens in a new tab). For help setting up or recovering your login, read Get and use DigiD.

If you can use your DUO loan, select payment from the loan when booking.

Book A2 or KNM in these steps:

1. Log in to Mijn Inburgering.
2. Choose the A2 language exam or KNM.
3. Choose an available place and a date offered at that location.
4. Choose how to pay.
5. Save the confirmation.

DUO sends a confirmation by email and by letter after registration. Your exam date also appears in Mijn Inburgering. You receive the oproepbrief (exam call letter) one week before the exam. The letter gives the place, date and time. See DUO’s exam registration page (External site, opens in a new tab) for letter timing.

Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt has a separate registration process. ONA applies only under Wet inburgering 2013 (Civic Integration Act 2013) or voluntary inburgering (civic integration). Exemptions apply. Check whether you need ONA on DUO’s knowledge-exam page (External site, opens in a new tab).

Start ONA registration by sending your completed portfolio in Mijn Inburgering. At this stage, you do not choose an exam date or place.

ONA has 2 parts: a portfolio and either a 64-hour ONA course or an eindgesprek (final interview). The portfolio contains 8 resultaatkaarten (result cards) and the bewijzen (evidence) required by the assignments. To pass ONA, DUO must approve your portfolio. You must also complete the 64-hour ONA course or pass the eindgesprek. The course route requires digital submission in Mijn Inburgering. If you post the portfolio, you must take the final interview.

Pay with iDEAL (online bank payment) or Wero (online payment service). You can also use your DUO loan if you have one.

Register for ONA in these steps:

1. Log in to Mijn Inburgering.
2. Choose ONA.
3. Send your completed result cards and evidence.
4. Pay the €40 exam fee.
5. Choose the 64-hour ONA course or the final interview.

DUO can take 6 weeks to check your portfolio. If DUO rejects your portfolio, correct it. Then send it again. The second check takes another 6 weeks. See DUO’s knowledge-exam page (External site, opens in a new tab) for portfolio checks.

If you choose the course, attend 64 hours at a school listed on zoekinburgerschool.nl (approved integration school register). Ask whether the school provides ONA. The school sets the course price separately and reports your completed hours to DUO.

If you choose the final interview, register after DUO approves your portfolio. The interview takes place within 6 weeks of registration. In October 2026, DUO charges €50 for each A2 language exam and €50 for KNM. ONA costs €40 if you need it. For example, one paid attempt at all four A2 language exams plus KNM costs €250. If you have a DUO loan, choose payment from the loan in Mijn Inburgering for A2 or knowledge exams. If you register with a paper form, tick the loan payment option. See DUO’s exam loan-payment page (External site, opens in a new tab) for payment instructions.

Free attempts, loans and who pays depend on your law and status. Before paying for another booking, check your status, previous attempts and PIP level in Free exam attempts under Wet inburgering 2021 (Civic Integration Act 2021). You can change the date or place in Mijn Inburgering up to 1 week before your A2 exam. If you cancel up to 1 week before the exam, DUO refunds your payment. See DUO’s exam registration page (External site, opens in a new tab) for change and cancellation rules.

If you cannot use Mijn Inburgering, send a letter asking for a new date to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering, Postbus 764, 9700 AT Groningen. DUO must receive it at least 1 week before the exam.

For example, for an A2 exam on 20 October 2026, change or cancel by 13 October. A letter asking for a new date must reach DUO by 13 October.

If you cannot log in, start the paper route early. Book A2 or KNM by post in these steps:

1. Download Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen (integration exam registration form, PDF, 163 KB) (External site, opens in a new tab).
2. Fill in your personal details.
3. Select the exams you want to take.
4. Select the exam location.
5. Fill in the payment section as the form instructs.
6. Sign the form.
7. Post the form to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering, Postbus 764, 9700 AT Groningen.

If you register with a form, you receive the exam letter within 3 weeks after you pay. The letter gives the place, date and time. See DUO’s exam registration page (External site, opens in a new tab) for letter timing.

A paper ONA portfolio requires the final interview. The 64-hour course route requires digital submission in Mijn Inburgering. If you are taking or planning that course, restore your DigiD login and send the portfolio online. For the interview route, ask DUO to check your paper portfolio in these steps:

1. Download Aanmelden Examen Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt Bekijken portfolio (ONA portfolio assessment form, PDF, 93 KB) (External site, opens in a new tab).
2. Complete the form, including the payment section and signature.
3. Complete the Voorblad persoonlijke gegevens (personal details cover sheet).
4. Gather all 8 completed result cards and the required evidence.
5. Check your documents against the checklist on the form.
6. Post the form, cover sheet, result cards and evidence to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering, Postbus 764, 9700 AT Groningen.

If DUO approves your paper portfolio, its letter includes the form for booking the final interview.

For B1 and B2 language exams, use DUO’s Staatsexamen NT2 (Dutch as a second language state exam) registration page (External site, opens in a new tab). These exams are booked in Mijn DUO (DUO’s online portal).

Arrange Module Arbeidsmarkt en Participatie (MAP, labour market and participation module) and participatieverklaringstraject (PVT, participation declaration process) through your gemeente.

The A1 basisexamen inburgering in het buitenland (basic integration exam abroad) has a separate booking route. If you need it, pass the required exam parts abroad before applying for a machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf (MVV, provisional residence permit). Check IND (Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst, immigration and naturalisation service): basic exam abroad requirements (External site, opens in a new tab) to see whether you need it. If your exam overview requires A2 or KNM, book through Mijn Inburgering or use the paper form if login fails. If you need ONA, send the portfolio first. If your PIP specifies B1, check whether A2 meets your requirements before paying. Check your payment route too.

The wait can exceed 6 weeks. Book early. If your A2 booking no longer fits, change or cancel it at least 1 week before the exam to keep the refund option. After booking, check your confirmation, address and email, then keep the oproepbrief for the exam.
