Inburgering exam registration: where to sign up

If you are integrating in the Netherlands, check Mijn Inburgering (External site, opens in a new tab) before booking. It shows which exams you need and at which language level. The Mijn Inburgering portal guide explains what you can arrange there.

Each booking system covers different exams. Use this table to choose your route.

Your gemeente (municipality) arranges the Module Arbeidsmarkt en Participatie (MAP, Labour Market and Participation Module) and participatieverklaringstraject (PVT, participation declaration process). DUO’s registration page (External site, opens in a new tab) directs you to your municipality for both. These are participation steps rather than exam bookings.

Register for the basisexamen inburgering buitenland through Naar Nederland (External site, opens in a new tab). If you need this exam for a machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf (MVV, provisional residence permit), you need to pass before applying. Check the official requirement and exemptions (External site, opens in a new tab) for your situation.

Follow these steps in order:

1. Complete the online registration linked from Naar Nederland.
2. Pay for the exam.
3. Wait for DUO’s confirmation and your candidate number. The email arrives within five working days after payment; a postal confirmation arrives later.
4. Use the instructions in the confirmation to book your exam appointment yourself.

Check the country-specific exam instructions (External site, opens in a new tab) for your appointment. The exam may take place at an embassy, consulate or external service provider. If your country has no Dutch embassy or consulate, choose the nearest one. You may need a visa for the trip. Ask an embassy of the country where you will take the exam about that visa.

In October 2026, Naar Nederland lists the full exam at €150. Kennis van de Nederlandse Samenleving (KNS, Knowledge of Dutch Society), Lezen (Reading) and Spreken (Speaking) cost €50 each.

Processing a paper registration can take up to ten weeks.

You can change the exam date once, up to 24 hours before the exam, if the embassy or consulate agrees. You can also change the location once by the same deadline. First ask the new embassy or consulate whether it can accept you. If it agrees, reply to DUO’s confirmation email or payment confirmation to arrange the change.

To cancel and request a refund, reply to DUO’s confirmation email or payment confirmation at least 24 hours before the exam. The official A1 change and cancellation rules (External site, opens in a new tab) explain what to include.

Book A2 language exams and KNM in Mijn Inburgering. You need DigiD (Dutch digital ID) with SMS verification or the DigiD app to log in. For help setting it up or recovering access, see Get and use DigiD.

Follow these steps in order:

1. Log in to Mijn Inburgering.
2. Choose the exam, date and place.
3. Check the date shown in the portal after booking.
4. Check DUO’s letter one week before the exam for the place, date and time.

DUO says it can take more than six weeks before you can take an exam. Book with time left before your deadline.

If you cannot log in, use Aanmelding inburgeringsexamen (civic integration exam registration form) (External site, opens in a new tab) (PDF, 163 KB) for A2 or KNM. With the paper form, DUO sends the exam letter within three weeks after you pay.

For A2 exams, you can change the date or place in Mijn Inburgering up to one week before the exam. Cancel by that deadline to get your money back. For example, for an exam on 20 October 2026, change or cancel by 13 October. Without access to Mijn Inburgering, send your request to DUO by post. DUO must receive it one week before the exam. ONA needs a portfolio: all eight resultaatkaarten (result cards) and the required bewijzen (evidence). You also complete a 64-hour ONA course or an eindgesprek (final interview). The official ONA instructions (External site, opens in a new tab) explain both routes.

Follow these steps for online registration:

1. Choose ONA in Mijn Inburgering.
2. Send your portfolio.
3. Pay €40, the fee listed in October 2026, using iDEAL or Wero (online payment services), or your DUO loan if you have one.
4. Choose the 64-hour ONA course or the eindgesprek.
5. If you choose the eindgesprek, register for it after DUO approves your portfolio.

The course route needs a digital portfolio and at least 64 qualifying hours at a school with the Blik op Werk (course-provider quality mark) approval. Portfolio preparation can count towards those hours. You pass once DUO approves the portfolio and you provide proof of the course hours. DUO can take six weeks to check your portfolio. If you need to correct it, checking takes another six weeks. The eindgesprek takes place within six weeks after you register for it. If you fail the interview or cancel too late, you need to send the portfolio again, pay again and take another interview.

If you cannot log in, you can send your ONA portfolio by post. A paper portfolio can only lead to the eindgesprek. If you are taking or planning the 64-hour course, restore your DigiD access and submit the portfolio in Mijn Inburgering.

For the paper route, send all these documents together:

• Aanmelden Examen Oriëntatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt Bekijken portfolio (ONA portfolio-check registration form) (External site, opens in a new tab) (PDF, 93 KB).
• Voorblad persoonlijke gegevens (personal-details cover sheet) (External site, opens in a new tab) (PDF, 21 KB).
• All eight resultaatkaarten and the required bewijzen.

Book Staatsexamen NT2 through DUO’s state-exam registration page (External site, opens in a new tab). Registration opens about eight weeks before the exam. The official NT2 registration instructions (External site, opens in a new tab) link to the schedules with the opening date and time: 09:00 or 10:00.

Follow these steps in order:

1. Check the schedule for your exam’s booking date and time.
2. Log in to Mijn DUO with your own DigiD. If you cannot request DigiD, use DUO’s registration option without DigiD.
3. Choose the exam parts, city and week. You can book several parts together. You cannot book a part while you are already registered for it or waiting for its result.
4. Choose an available date and time.
5. Choose a payment option.

In October 2026, each NT2 part costs €50. The complete Programma I (Programme I, B1) or Programma II (Programme II, B2) exam costs €200. Under the official NT2 payment rules (External site, opens in a new tab), you can pay with iDEAL during registration or choose an invoice up to three weeks before the exam.

If you are inburgeringsplichtig (required to integrate), Mijn DUO shows whether you qualify for loan payment or a free exam attempt. Those options depend on your entitlement. Check the official NT2 fee and payment page (External site, opens in a new tab) if the option you expect is missing.

DUO sends an examenoproep (exam call letter) by email and post. Once DUO has received your payment, you receive the call letter ten days before the exam. Contact DUO if it has not arrived by then. The letter gives the place and time. Arrive 30 minutes before the exam starts.

To cancel with a refund, email nt2@duo.nl at least four weeks before the exam. If illness or the death of an immediate family member prevents you from attending, notify DUO and send evidence within ten days after the exam. DUO may grant a replacement exam. Check these points before you confirm a booking:

• Use the correct portal. NT2 has its own booking pages and schedule; A2 and KNM use Mijn Inburgering.
• Leave time before your deadline. A2 waits can exceed six weeks, and NT2 places open according to the schedule.
• Contact your gemeente for MAP and PVT. Your exam booking does not arrange these steps.
• Check your email and postal address. DUO sends confirmation and exam letters to those contact details.
• Check your exam’s cancellation deadline before changing a booking. Refund and replacement rules differ by exam.
• Keep your exam call letter. Check the exam-day rules for what to bring.

If you still need to book, use the system for your exam and leave time before your deadline. If you have booked, save the confirmation, payment proof, candidate number and oproepbrief (exam call letter). Check the letter’s place, date and time. If you need to change or cancel, use your exam’s deadline above to avoid losing the fee.
