For A2 language exams, KNM and ONA, DUO does not normally give the result on exam day. DUO says you receive the result within 8 weeks by letter, and you can also see it in Mijn Inburgering. If you failed one part, you usually continue with that part instead of starting everything again. First check your official DUO file, then decide whether to book a resit, ask for help, or wait because the 8-week window has not passed yet.

When do A2 inburgering exam results come?

A2 language exam results and KNM results come within 8 weeks. DUO sends the result by letter and also shows it in Mijn Inburgering. ONA can take longer in practice because DUO first checks the portfolio; after the ONA final step, the result is also sent within the official result window.

Key Points

  • A2 language exams and KNM results are sent within 8 weeks by DUO letter.
  • Mijn Inburgering can also show the result, so check the portal as well as your post.
  • ONA is different: the portfolio check can take 6 weeks before the final ONA step continues.
  • If you failed one A2 part, focus on the part still missing. Do not repeat passed parts unless DUO tells you to.
  • If all required exams are passed, check the Diploma section in Mijn Inburgering.
  • If the result is late, first check the portal, your address, your email and DUO letters before booking another exam.
  • Repeated failures can affect your deadline, so do not keep paying for random resits without a plan.

Where to Check Your Result

For A2, KNM and ONA, start with Mijn Inburgering. DUO says the portal can show your exam result, and the same portal also keeps your DUO letters and personal exam overview. A paper letter still matters, so make sure your postal address is correct.

If you cannot log in, solve that problem before the deadline becomes urgent. You may need DigiD with the app or SMS check. If your result should already be there but is missing, contact DUO with the exam date and the exam part you took.

What a Pass Means

A pass for one exam part is useful, but it may not mean that your whole inburgering requirement is finished. A2 reading, listening, speaking, writing and KNM are separate parts. ONA is a separate knowledge/work exam for people who still need it under Wet inburgering 2013 or voluntary inburgering.

  • If you passed one A2 language exam, keep the result and prepare the missing parts.
  • If you passed KNM, check whether language exams, ONA, MAP or PVT are still open in your file.
  • If your ONA portfolio is approved, you may still need the final interview or the approved 64-hour ONA course route.
  • If all required exams are passed, go to Diploma in Mijn Inburgering and check your digital diploma or next official step.

If You Failed a Part

A failed part is not the same as failing your whole future in the Netherlands. It means that this part still needs work. Before you book the next attempt, read the result carefully. Which part failed? Was it a timing problem, a language problem, a computer problem, or confusion about the question type?

When you are ready to try again, use the A2 registration guide to book the right exam part. If you have failed several times, first read the failed multiple times guide. You may need a study change, extra time, an adapted exam or advice from your gemeente, not just another date.

How to Prepare for a Resit

  • Wait for the official result before guessing what went wrong.
  • Practise only the missing part for a few days before mixing all skills again.
  • Use official practice first, then extra practice if you understand the format.
  • Check whether money, free attempts or loan rules matter before booking many resits.
  • If illness, disability or stress made the exam unrealistic, check whether an adapted exam or extra support is possible.

For a broader timeline across A1, A2, ONA and NT2, read the inburgering result timeline. For official-style practice, start with the free exam practice page.

If the Result Is Late or Missing

For A2 language exams and KNM, use 8 weeks as the official window. If 8 weeks have not passed, the result may simply not be ready. If the window has passed, check Mijn Inburgering, your DUO letters, your email and your postal address. Then contact DUO and give the exact exam part and exam date.

Next Steps After Your Result

If you passed everything, check the diploma and uittreksel guide. If you still have parts open, use Mijn Inburgering as your source of truth and make a short plan: one missing part, one practice routine, one booking date, and one check of costs or free-attempt rules before you pay.
