Most inburgering results do not arrive on exam day. For A2 language exams and knowledge exams such as KNM, DUO gives the result within 8 weeks by letter and in Mijn Inburgering. For the A1 basisexamen abroad, DUO also gives the result within 8 weeks, usually by email with a PDF. For Staatsexamen NT2, the exact result date is shown in the official exam schedule and the result is available in Mijn DUO from 15:00 on that date.
Quick Timeline
Use this table first. The result system depends on which exam family you took, so do not use an A2 deadline for an NT2 exam or the other way around.
| Exam or step | When the result comes | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| A1 basisexamen abroad | Within 8 weeks after the exam. | DUO email or letter. The result PDF shows which parts you passed. |
| A2 language exams and KNM | Within 8 weeks. | Mijn Inburgering and DUO letter. |
| ONA portfolio and final step | Portfolio review can take 6 weeks. The final result can take up to 8 weeks. | Mijn Inburgering, email or letter, depending on how you submitted. |
| Staatsexamen NT2 B1 or B2 | Around 5 weeks in Mijn DUO, with the exact date in the exam schedule. | Mijn DUO, email and post. Without DigiD: email and post only. |
| All required parts passed | Diploma or certificate timing depends on the route. | Mijn Inburgering, Mijn diploma's, DUO post, or your municipality for Z-route certificates. |
How to Check Your Result
- For A1 abroad, watch for an email from DUO with a PDF result. If your sponsor's email address was included during registration, they may receive the result too.
- For A2 language exams and KNM, log in to Mijn Inburgering with DigiD and wait for the DUO letter. The portal may show the result before the letter arrives.
- For ONA, check the message route you used. Digital portfolio submissions can produce email updates, while postal submissions rely more on letters.
- For Staatsexamen NT2, log in to Mijn DUO. DUO also sends the result by email and post to the address you used when registering.
- Keep your address and email current. A correct result can still feel missing if DUO has an old postal address or your email filters official messages.
What Counts as Passing?
Do not guess from unofficial percentages. The official result is the result that matters. For A2 and KNM, DUO's public pages tell you whether you passed or did not pass; they do not publish one stable public percentage for every exam version.
- A1 basisexamen abroad: you pass the full exam when you score at least 6 out of 10 for each of the 3 parts.
- A2 language exams and KNM: check the official result in Mijn Inburgering or the DUO letter. Treat any online rule of thumb as secondary.
- Staatsexamen NT2: each part is passed with a score of 500 or higher.
- ONA: you need an approved portfolio and either the required final interview route or the approved 64-hour ONA course route.
- MAP and PVT are handled through your municipality, not as the same kind of scored DUO language exam.
If You Passed
First, check whether you passed one part or completed the whole requirement. A single passed NT2 part can give you a certificate extract, but the NT2 diploma comes after all 4 parts. For inburgering diplomas under DUO, use Mijn Inburgering and Mijn diploma's. The diploma and certificate guide explains the difference between a diploma, certificate and digital uittreksel.
For A1 abroad, the result PDF is important for the MVV application. The IND says the basisexamen result is valid for 1 year, so do not let the MVV step drift after you pass.
If You Did Not Pass
- A1 abroad: you only retake the part or parts you failed, but you must register and pay for those parts again.
- A2 and KNM: register for a new attempt through Mijn Inburgering or the official form route if you cannot log in.
- ONA: if the portfolio is rejected, adjust and submit it again. If you fail the final interview or cancel too late, DUO can require a new portfolio submission, a new payment and a new interview.
- NT2: wait until the result for that part is known. Staatsexamens NT2 says you cannot register for a new attempt before the result has been received.
- If repeated failures are affecting your deadline, look at the broader options in the failed-exam guide before booking random attempts.
Repeated failures can become a deadline problem, not only a study problem. If that applies to you, read what to do after failing several times and check whether extra time, a route change, or adapted exams might be relevant.
If the Result Is Late or Missing
For A2, KNM and A1 abroad, 8 weeks is the key official window. For NT2, check the exact result date in the official schedule; the result should be available from 15:00 on that date. If the official window has passed, check the right portal, your email spam folder and your postal address, then contact DUO with your candidate or exam details.
If the problem is access to the portal, start with the Mijn Inburgering guide. For NT2, remember that the result lives in Mijn DUO, not in the same place as A2 inburgering results.
