Staatsexamen NT2: results and resits

The official schedules give a result date for each exam date and part. Choose Programma I (External site, opens in a new tab) or Programma II (External site, opens in a new tab). Look for uitslag online vanaf 15.00 uur (result online from 15:00).

Example: if you took Lezen (reading) in Programma I on 2 October 2026, the schedule gives 27 October 2026 from 15:00 as your result time.

DUO gives a general estimate of about five weeks. Use the date listed for your exam part when planning a resit. Check the schedule again because dates can change. For A1 and A2 exams, see the exam results timeline.

You can read your result in Mijn DUO with DigiD. Follow these steps on the scheduled result date:

1. Find your exam date and part in the official schedule.
2. Log in to Mijn DUO with DigiD from 15:00 on the result date.
3. Read the result for that part.

DUO also sends your result to the email and postal addresses from your registration. If you have no DigiD, you receive the result only by email and post. For help setting up DigiD, use the guide to getting and using DigiD.

If you have moved, email your new address to nt2@duo.nl. Include your candidate number and exam date. The 2026 registration rules (External site, opens in a new tab) require you to report the change.

You pass each part with a score of 500 or higher. A score below 500 means you failed that part.

The official assessment page (External site, opens in a new tab) explains how exam points become a score. The score uses a different scale from school grades of 1 to 10.

The four parts are Lezen, Luisteren (listening), Schrijven (writing) and Spreken (speaking). Both programmes test these skills. For the levels and parts, see the Staatsexamen NT2 overview. The 2026 exam rules (External site, opens in a new tab) describe two ways of marking:

• Lezen and Luisteren: a computer marks your answers.
• Schrijven and Spreken: two trained assessors mark each task.

A third assessor checks a Schrijven or Spreken task when needed.

You can register again for a failed part after you receive its result. You keep the parts you have passed. Herkansen (retaking an exam) means taking a failed part again. See the official resit rule (External site, opens in a new tab).

1. Wait for the failed part's result.
2. Choose a new date for that part in the same programme.
3. Register through DUO's NT2 registration page (External site, opens in a new tab).

Before your resit, practise the part you failed. Use the official NT2 practice page (External site, opens in a new tab). Use a computer or laptop. For extra free practice from Inburgering (civic integration).org, choose the B1 resources or B2 resources. These are our own materials.

If you may miss your inburgering deadline, check the date in your DUO letter and your gemeente (municipality) plan. DUO may give extra time in some situations. A certificaat (certificate) proves that you passed one part. Passing Lezen alone proves that part. An NT2 diploma proves that you passed all four skills. The official NT2 results and validity page (External site, opens in a new tab) states that certificates and diplomas have no expiry date.

For one passed part, you can download a free uittreksel (official extract) in Mijn diploma's (My diplomas). You can also ask DUO to send the certificate. The extract is an official DUO document with the same value as the certificate or diploma. It looks different from the original document.

Passing all four skills in Programma II gives you a Programma II diploma. Passes split between the two programmes give you a Programma I diploma. See 2026 exam rules (External site, opens in a new tab).

If you passed the final part after 1 January 2021, DUO sends your diploma automatically within four weeks. It arrives at your home by registered post. If you passed all four parts before 1 January 2021, email nt2@duo.nl to exchange your certificates for a diploma. Before sending proof to IND (Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst, the Dutch immigration service), a school or an employer, ask which document they need.

If you passed one part, keep the result and complete the remaining parts. If you need proof now, download the certificate extract. If you passed all four skills, check the diploma table above. Then follow the delivery rule above.
