Staatsexamen NT2 Registration with DUO: Dates, Fees, and Call Letter

You register for Staatsexamen NT2 through DUO, usually in MijnDUO with your DigiD. Registration normally opens about eight weeks before the exam, but the official exam schedule shows the exact opening day and time. Choose Programma I (B1) or Programma II (B2), the exam component, city, week and available time. After DUO receives your payment, you get an oproepbrief, a call letter, with the exact place and start time.

• Use MijnDUO for Staatsexamen NT2 Programma I (B1) and Programma II (B2).
• Registration normally opens about 8 weeks before the exam. The schedule gives the exact opening date and time.
• You need DigiD for the normal MijnDUO route. If you cannot request DigiD, DUO also offers a route without DigiD.
• NT2 exams are offered in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Rijswijk, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Zwolle.
• Each component costs €50 as of May 2026. A full four-part exam costs €200.
• The call letter is the final instruction. Be at the location 30 minutes before the exam starts.

Decide first whether you need Programma I or Programma II. Programma I is B1 and is often the route used for inburgering or practical work and study goals. Programma II is B2 and is usually for higher education or work where stronger Dutch is needed. If your gemeente or DUO told you which level to use, follow that instruction.

• Check the Programma I or Programma II schedule before the registration day.
• Look at the component names carefully: lezen, luisteren, schrijven and spreken.
• Do not book a component again if you are already registered for it or still waiting for its result.
• If a preferred city or time is full, check another official NT2 city before giving up.
• If you have dyslexia, a disability or another personal circumstance, mark this during registration instead of waiting until exam day.

• Open the official NT2 schedule and note when registration starts for your component.
• Go to DUO's Staatsexamen NT2 registration page and log in to MijnDUO with DigiD, or choose the no-DigiD route if that applies to you.
• Choose Programma I or Programma II, then choose the component or components you want to take.
• Choose the city, week, date and available time shown in the DUO system.
• Pay online with iDEAL, choose invoice if that is still available for your date, or use your inburgering loan or free attempt if DUO offers that option to you.
• Save the confirmation email and watch for the oproepbrief by email and post.

For NT2, the fee is per component, not per complete diploma. If you take only lezen and schrijven, you pay for those two components. If you book all four components, the total is four times the component fee. DUO says the call letter is sent after payment has been received, about 10 days before the exam.

• Check the name, component, city, date and start time on the call letter.
• Contact DUO quickly if the call letter has a mistake or has not arrived 10 days before the exam.
• Bring the call letter and the correct identification document on exam day.
• Plan your travel so you can arrive 30 minutes early. If you are late, you may not be allowed to take the exam.

Cancellation, illness and adapted exams are not the same thing. Handle them early, because DUO asks for evidence in some situations and the deadline can be short.

• If you want to cancel and get your money back, DUO says you must cancel no later than 4 weeks before the exam.
• If you are ill or a direct family member has died, contact DUO and send evidence. Staatsexamens NT2 says this can be done up to 10 days after the exam.
• If you need extra time, larger letters or another adaptation, indicate personal circumstances during registration. DUO will tell you what evidence is needed.
• Adapted exams may not be possible at every location, so DUO may give you a different city or date.
