Free Inburgering (Civic Integration) Practice Tests: Official Exams and How to Use Them

Start with the official practice tests. For A1 abroad, use the Naar Nederland practice exams. For A2 and the knowledge of Dutch society exam (KNM), use the Education Executive Agency (DUO) practice exams on inburgeren.nl. For Staatsexamen NT2 B1/B2, use the official NT2 practice environment. These free materials show the exam style. Use the results to choose which skills to train in your daily study.

• Official practice shows the screen, buttons, timing and question style.
• A1 abroad has separate practice for Kennis van de Nederlandse Samenleving (KNS, knowledge of Dutch society), Lezen (reading) and Spreken (speaking) through Naar Nederland.
• A2 practice on inburgeren.nl covers Schrijven (writing), Spreken (speaking), Luisteren (listening), Lezen (reading) and KNM.
• B1/B2 NT2 practice uses a different official practice environment from the A2 exams.
• Treat practice questions as examples. Use them to find what to practise next.
• Do the computer-based practice on a computer or laptop when possible, especially before the real exam.

The word inburgering is used for several exam routes. Use this table to match your situation to the right level and exam family.

A practice test is useful only if you review it. Take one official test early, even if your score is weak. Use it to see the task types. Then study for two or three weeks, repeat a similar test, and compare what changed.

• Write down the part that felt slow: reading instructions, finding information, listening once, typing, speaking after the beep, or choosing between close answers.
• Turn each problem into a small practice task for the week. For example: ten short listening clips, five KNM topics, or three short A2 emails.
• Repeat official practice near the exam date on the same kind of device you will use in the test centre.
• After each test, decide one next action. A long list of mistakes is less useful than one clear study block for tomorrow.

A practice score gives you one snapshot of your skills. Continue regular Dutch study: vocabulary, sentence building, reading common forms and letters, listening to everyday speech, and speaking simple answers out loud. Official practice identifies gaps. Regular language study builds the skills the exam tests.
