Free Dutch exam practice: choose A1, A2, B1 or B2

If you must integrate in the Netherlands, Mijn Inburgering (My Civic Integration) shows which exams you need. For the level required by your integration law or residence goal, read which Dutch exam you need. If DUO or your gemeente (municipality) has not told you your level yet, check that choice before starting practice.

Choose the row for your exam, then open its official practice page. The rows run from A1 to B2.

A1 KNS uses photo questions. Lezen uses short texts. Spreken asks you to answer questions and complete sentences. Naar Nederland says the real exam looks different from its practice tests. The KNS practice test is shorter than the real exam.

A2 writing practice comes as PDF (Portable Document Format) files. Practise with pen and paper, as in the real A2 writing exam (External site, opens in a new tab). For computer practice, use a desktop or laptop. A1 speaking practice needs a microphone. DUO recommends a desktop for A2 practice; if you use a phone or tablet, turn it sideways. A2 speaking practice needs a browser other than Safari. The NT2 practice environment works properly only on a computer or laptop.

If you need the A1 exam before applying for a machtiging tot voorlopig verblijf (MVV, provisional residence permit), use the A1 resources. If you are joining a partner, the family reunification guide covers the residence application.

Use a practice test to choose one skill to study next. We suggest this order:

1. Take one official practice test early, even if your score is low.
2. Note what felt slow, such as reading instructions, finding information, listening once, typing, speaking after the beep, or choosing between similar answers.
3. Choose one small practice task for the week, such as ten short listening clips, five KNM topics, or three short A2 emails.
4. Study that skill in your daily practice.
5. Repeat a similar test after two or three weeks of study.
6. Compare both attempts to choose one task for tomorrow.

Near your exam date, repeat computer practice on the same kind of device you will use at the test centre. Use pen and paper for A2 writing. If timing is your main problem, read the exam-day rules and practise with a timer.

Use the problems you found to guide your Dutch study. Practise vocabulary and build sentences. Read common forms and letters. Listen to everyday speech. Say simple answers aloud. A practice result shows how you did on those tasks that day.

Use practice to choose what to work on. A practice score describes that attempt. Your exam result depends on your performance in the real exam.
