Dutch habits that I now have myself

Daily life in NL
Natalia_NLSpain

I have been living in The Hague for a few years now. At first I found many things strange. Now I do them myself too. A few examples:

The calendar. Dutch people plan everything. Even coffee with a friend. Two weeks in advance. At first I thought: why? Now I have a calendar myself too and it works well.

Bread with cheese. The same lunch every day. A sandwich with cheese, a glass of milk. I thought: that is boring. But it is quick, cheap, and nobody thinks it is strange.

Cycling in the rain. There is no bad weather, only wrong clothes. People here really say that. Put on a rain suit and go.

Birthdays. You congratulate everyone in the room, not just the birthday person. Also the birthday person's grandmother. I did not know that at first. A bit awkward, but now I think it is normal.

Which Dutch habit have you adopted? I am curious.

I also found congratulating everyone on their birthday strange. Now I do it automatically. I also send a Tikkie more and more often for small amounts, something I never used to do.

For me, it’s the calendar. My family is laughing now because even during a vacation I ask which day we’re going to have coffee. But honestly, planning also brings peace of mind.
